🧑🎓 Student Spotlight: William from Myanmar
💬 William is a fourth-year student from Myanmar in the Global Discovery Program (GDP), an English-based liberal arts program at Okayama University, and will be starting his career in Japan after graduation. Let’s sit down with him to dive into his experiences during the journey as an international student in Japan so far.
*****
❓ Why did you choose to study in Japan?
🍯 I chose to study in Japan because of my interest in Japanese culture 🇳 and the opportunities to learn here. Additionally, my father exports honey to Japan, so it seemed like a good opportunity for me to come.
❓ How has your life changed since you first came to Japan?
🌱 A lot has changed since I first came here. My Japanese has improved a lot, and I’ve secured a job after graduation! In the future, I hope to play a role in connecting business opportunities between Japan and Myanmar. 😊
❓ What hobbies are you enjoying lately?
📸 I’ve started taking photos! I recently bought a camera and really enjoy taking portraits of people. There’s something about capturing a person that makes the photo feel alive; that’s why I love doing street photography 🏙️
❓ What kind of projects are you working on?
🌍 I used to join many Model United Nations (MUN) across Japan, where you become an ambassador of a country to debate with other delegates about global issues. At first, I was invited by a friend to participate to fill in the vacancy spot; but now I’m already a part of Okayama University’s MUN circle.
Also, I just led TEDxOkayamaUniversity as the first TEDx event in Chugoku-Shikoku region this April! It’s a huge honor and an exciting event, and I’m really looking forward to bringing inspiring speakers and ideas to the Okayama University and local community.
